These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of Slice of Life ("the app", "the software"). By installing or using the app you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not install or use the app.
For as long as your license key remains active, you receive a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use Slice of Life on up to two (2) Mac computers you own or control. You may not sublicense, resell, or distribute the software. This license ends if your license key is revoked, lapses, or expires (see Section 6).
The app uses a credit system to cover the cost of AI processing. Credits are consumed each time you build a Slice; the exact cost depends on the amount of footage you provide.
You may use the app only for lawful purposes and only with footage you have the right to process. You agree not to:
All video footage you provide stays on your Mac. The app never uploads your footage to any server. Transcription (Whisper) and video assembly (FFmpeg) run entirely on your device. Small excerpts of frames are sent to Anthropic's API (via a secure proxy) solely to perform AI editing functions; these are not stored or used for training.
Slice of Life — including the application software, its user interface, design, branding, name, logo, website, and all related content — is owned by Nathaniel Griffey (doing business as Slice of Life) and is protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. These Terms grant the license to use the app described in Section 1; they do not transfer any ownership or intellectual property rights to you. You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, rent, sublicense, reverse-engineer, or create derivative works from the app or its assets, except as expressly permitted by these Terms or by applicable open source licenses (see Section 10). You retain all rights to the video footage and content you create with the app (see Section 4). You may upload your own fonts for captions; these stay on your Mac, are never bundled or redistributed by us, and you're responsible for having the rights to use any font you upload.
Slice of Life is currently offered free of charge as an early access release. There is no subscription, no payment, and no payment method required. License keys are issued through Lemon Squeezy at a price of $0.
What "early access" means. The app is under active development. It may contain bugs, features may change or be removed, and results will vary depending on your footage. We provide it as-is (see Sections 8 and 13). In return we ask — but do not require — that you tell us how it went, so we can improve it.
No automatic charge. Because no payment method is collected, your license will never convert into a paid plan on its own and you will never be billed automatically. If we introduce paid plans in the future, continued access at that point will require you to affirmatively sign up and provide a payment method. We will give existing early access users advance notice by email before any such change takes effect.
Ending or limiting access. We may revoke a license key, limit credits, or discontinue the free early access program at any time, including for misuse under Section 3. Because the app is provided free of charge, no refund arises from any such change.
Previously paid subscriptions. Paid Basic and Pro subscriptions are not currently offered. If you hold a subscription from before this change, it remains governed by the billing terms in effect when you subscribed, and you may cancel at any time from your Lemon Squeezy customer portal or the in-app "Manage subscription" link.
Updates are provided at the developer's discretion. There is no guarantee of any specific feature or update timeline. Updates to the app are free for the same major version.
The app is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. The developer does not warrant that the app will be error-free or uninterrupted.
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the developer shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenue, arising out of or related to your use of the app, even if advised of the possibility of such damages. The developer's total liability for any claim arising under these Terms shall not exceed the amount you paid for the app in the 12 months preceding the claim.
The app incorporates open source software, including FFmpeg (licensed under the GNU General Public License v2), Whisper.cpp (MIT), and others. We build FFmpeg ourselves from unmodified upstream source; that source is available at ffmpeg.org. A full list of acknowledgements is available in the app's About panel. Nothing in these Terms limits rights granted by applicable open source licenses.
These Terms may be updated from time to time. Material changes will be noted in the app's release notes. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
Slice of Life relies on third-party AI services to function, including Anthropic's Claude API for video analysis and editing decisions. These services are provided by independent companies whose availability, pricing, and terms are outside our control. In the event a third-party service becomes unavailable, significantly changes its pricing, or discontinues operations, certain features of the app may degrade or become non-functional. We will make reasonable efforts to find alternatives, but cannot guarantee continuity of AI-dependent features. This dependency is a known and disclosed aspect of the product.
The quality of output produced by the app depends on factors including the quality of footage provided, lighting conditions, audio clarity, and the nature of the content. Results shown in marketing materials represent typical use cases and are not guaranteed for all footage types or conditions.
This section applies to our done-for-you video editing service. It is separate from the Mac app, and the sections above about the app, credits and licensing do not govern it.
Footage you send us. You confirm that you hold the rights to everything you upload — the footage itself, anyone who appears or is heard in it, and any music, clips, artwork or other material already present in it. You remain responsible for any claim arising from material you supplied, and you agree to cover us against such claims. We may decline or stop work on anything we believe infringes someone else's rights or that we are not willing to produce.
Who does the work. We may use vetted contractors to carry out part of the work. We remain responsible to you for anything they produce, and they are held to the same confidentiality expectations we are.
Turnaround. Turnaround is five business days unless a different timeframe is agreed in writing for a particular video, and begins when all footage for that video has finished uploading and is complete and usable. If an upload is incomplete, corrupt or unreadable, the clock starts when a working replacement has been received. Turnaround covers the edit only; it does not include time spent waiting on notes, assets or approvals from you.
What you own. Finished videos are yours on delivery, with full rights to publish, monetize and modify them. We keep one thing: the right to show work we produced in our own portfolio, website and marketing. If you would rather a video were left out, tell us and we will leave it out.
The first video. Before any payment, we cut one video from footage you send us, free of charge and with no obligation to continue. It is delivered on the same terms as any other video, including the portfolio right above. We decide which projects we take on and may decline for any reason.
Music. Any music we add is licensed by us for your video’s ordinary publication and monetization on your own channels. That license does not extend to paid promotion — running a video as an advertisement, a boosted post, or as branded or sponsored content. Tell us before you use a video that way and we will license the track for it or supply an alternative. If a video is used in paid promotion without telling us, you are responsible for any claim that results.
Payment. Videos are quoted and booked one at a time. The price for a video is agreed before work starts and is due on delivery unless we agree otherwise in writing. There is no retainer, no minimum and nothing to use up, so nothing expires unused. If the first video you pay for is not right, tell us within 14 days of delivery and we will refund it.
Scope, revisions and cancellation are as described on our services page, including what counts as a revision round and what counts as a new video.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, United States, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any disputes shall be resolved exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Denton County, Texas. You consent to personal jurisdiction in such courts.
