Terms of Service

Effective date: July 7, 2026  ·  Slice of Life by Nathan Griffey

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your purchase and use of Slice of Life ("the app", "the software"). By purchasing or installing the app you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not install or use the app.

1. License

For as long as your subscription remains active, you receive a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use Slice of Life on up to two (2) Mac computers you own or control. You may not sublicense, resell, or distribute the software. This license ends if your subscription is cancelled, lapses, or expires (see Section 6).

2. Credits

The app uses a credit system to cover the cost of AI processing. Credits are consumed each time you build a Slice; the exact cost depends on the amount of footage you provide.

  • Credits are not currency and have no cash value.
  • Your plan's monthly (or annual, granted monthly) credit allotment resets each billing cycle and does not roll over — unused credits from one cycle are not carried into the next.
  • Credits purchased separately in a top-up pack do not expire and remain available until used, but are tied to your license key and are non-transferable.
  • Credits are non-refundable once consumed.

3. Acceptable Use

You may use the app only for lawful purposes and only with footage you have the right to process. You agree not to:

  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble the software.
  • Attempt to circumvent the license key or credit system.
  • Use the app to process footage that infringes third-party intellectual property rights.

4. Your Content

All video footage you provide stays on your Mac. The app never uploads your footage to any server. Transcription (Whisper) and video assembly (FFmpeg) run entirely on your device. Small excerpts of frames are sent to Anthropic's API (via a secure proxy) solely to perform AI editing functions; these are not stored or used for training.

5. Intellectual Property

Slice of Life — including the application software, its user interface, design, branding, name, logo, website, and all related content — is owned by Nathaniel Griffey (doing business as Slice of Life) and is protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. Your purchase grants the license to use the app described in Section 1; it does not transfer any ownership or intellectual property rights to you. You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, rent, sublicense, reverse-engineer, or create derivative works from the app or its assets, except as expressly permitted by these Terms or by applicable open source licenses (see Section 10). You retain all rights to the video footage and content you create with the app (see Section 4).

6. Subscriptions & Free Trial

Slice of Life is offered as a subscription (Basic or Pro), billed monthly or annually, and processed by Lemon Squeezy, our merchant of record.

Free trial. New subscribers may be offered a 7-day free trial. During the trial, full Pro-tier features are unlocked along with a limited number of trial credits, so you can evaluate the app before paying. A valid payment method is required to start a trial. Unless you cancel before the trial period ends, your subscription will automatically convert to a paid plan and your payment method will be charged the plan's listed price. You may cancel anytime during the trial at no charge, from your Lemon Squeezy account or the in-app "Manage subscription" link.

Auto-renewal. Paid subscriptions automatically renew each billing period (monthly or annually, matching your plan) at the then-current price until cancelled. You can cancel anytime, at no further charge, from your Lemon Squeezy customer portal or the in-app "Manage subscription" link — cancelling stops future renewals but does not refund the current billing period; you retain access through the end of the period already paid for. If we change your plan's price, we will notify you in advance of the change taking effect on your next renewal.

Annual plans — advance renewal notice. Where required by law, we will provide notice of an upcoming annual renewal (typically 15–30 days before the renewal date, consistent with applicable state requirements) via email through Lemon Squeezy's billing system, giving you the opportunity to cancel before being charged.

Refunds. Because every subscription starts with a free trial, we do not offer a standing refund guarantee — if you decide the app isn't for you, cancel before the trial ends and you won't be charged. If you are billed unexpectedly (for example, you forgot to cancel), contact sliceoflifetech@gmail.com and we'll review it at our discretion.

Changing plans. You may upgrade or downgrade between Basic and Pro, or between monthly and annual billing, at any time via the in-app "Manage subscription" link or your Lemon Squeezy customer portal. Plan changes take effect according to Lemon Squeezy's standard proration and renewal rules.

7. Updates

Updates are provided at the developer's discretion. There is no guarantee of any specific feature or update timeline. Updates to the app are free for the same major version.

8. Disclaimer of Warranties

The app is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. The developer does not warrant that the app will be error-free or uninterrupted.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the developer shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenue, arising out of or related to your use of the app, even if advised of the possibility of such damages. The developer's total liability for any claim arising under these Terms shall not exceed the amount you paid for the app in the 12 months preceding the claim.

10. Open Source Components

The app incorporates open source software, including FFmpeg (licensed under LGPL 2.1 and GPL 2.0), Whisper.cpp (MIT), and others. The FFmpeg source code is available at ffmpeg.org. A full list of acknowledgements is available in the app's About panel. Nothing in these Terms limits rights granted by applicable open source licenses.

11. Changes to Terms

These Terms may be updated from time to time. Material changes will be noted in the app's release notes. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

12. Third-Party AI Services

Slice of Life relies on third-party AI services to function, including Anthropic's Claude API for video analysis and editing decisions. These services are provided by independent companies whose availability, pricing, and terms are outside our control. In the event a third-party service becomes unavailable, significantly changes its pricing, or discontinues operations, certain features of the app may degrade or become non-functional. We will make reasonable efforts to find alternatives, but cannot guarantee continuity of AI-dependent features. This dependency is a known and disclosed aspect of the product.

13. Results May Vary

The quality of output produced by the app depends on factors including the quality of footage provided, lighting conditions, audio clarity, and the nature of the content. Results shown in marketing materials represent typical use cases and are not guaranteed for all footage types or conditions.

14. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, United States, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any disputes shall be resolved exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Denton County, Texas. You consent to personal jurisdiction in such courts.
