Privacy Policy

Effective date: May 28, 2026  ·  Slice of Life by Nathan Griffey

Short version: Your footage files are never uploaded or stored on any server. To perform AI editing, the app extracts small image frames from your clips and sends them to Anthropic's API — they are not retained. We collect only basic, anonymized usage analytics and purchase information. We do not sell your data to anyone.

1. What We Collect

Purchase information. When you buy the app, Lemon Squeezy (our payment processor) collects your name, email address, and payment details. We receive only a license key and a masked record of your purchase — we never see your full payment details.

License key. Your license key is stored locally on your Mac in the app's data directory. It is sent to our Cloudflare proxy server to verify your license when the app makes AI calls and to check your subscription status and credit balance. A one-way hash of your license key (not the key itself) is used to store your credit balance, plan tier, and subscription status server-side, so your balance stays accurate and tamper-resistant across devices — this record persists for as long as your subscription is active, unlike the short-lived 24-hour verification cache described in Section 5.

Usage analytics. The app and website use PostHog to collect anonymized usage events — things like "render started", "render completed", and "credits remaining". These events help us understand how the app is used and where to improve it. Analytics are tied to a random device identifier, not your name or email. Our PostHog analytics use memory-only persistence (no cookies). Our advertising pixels — described under "Advertising and conversion measurement" below — do set cookies.

Session replay. The website also uses PostHog session replay to record anonymized mouse movement, clicks, and scrolling on our public marketing pages, so we can see where visitors get stuck. There are no forms or input fields on the site — all input fields are masked regardless as a precaution — and checkout happens entirely on Lemon Squeezy's site, which this does not record. Replay data is tied to the same anonymous identifier as other analytics, never your name or email.

Advertising and conversion measurement. When we run ads, our website loads the Meta (Facebook) Pixel and the Google Ads tag to measure which ads lead to visits and sign-ups, and to build audiences for retargeting. These set cookies and share a limited set of events (such as page views, and when someone reaches a download or checkout page) with Meta and Google. They never receive your footage, and no payment details pass through them.

Bug reports. If you use the in-app bug report button, your message is sent directly via your email client to sliceoflifetech@gmail.com. We receive only what you choose to type.

2. What We Do Not Collect

  • Your video footage — it never leaves your Mac.
  • Your exported videos.
  • Any personally identifying information beyond your purchase email (held by Lemon Squeezy).

3. AI Processing

To perform AI editing functions, the app sends small image frames (extracted from your footage) and short text prompts to Anthropic's API via our Cloudflare proxy. For some features — such as narration classification, voiceover sectioning, and the YouTube kit's titles, description, and chapters — this includes excerpts of your transcribed narration text. These requests are used only to generate editing decisions in real time; we do not store this content on our own servers, and Anthropic's data handling is governed by Anthropic's Privacy Policy. We do not instruct Anthropic to retain or use your data for training.

4. Third-Party Services

  • Lemon Squeezy — payment processing and license key issuance. Privacy policy.
  • Cloudflare — API proxy, license verification cache, and the credit/subscription ledger (keyed by a hash of your license key, not the key itself). Privacy policy.
  • PostHog — anonymized analytics. Privacy policy.
  • Anthropic — AI model API (frames and prompts only). Privacy policy.
  • Meta (Facebook) — advertising pixel and conversion measurement. Privacy policy.
  • Google Ads — advertising tag and conversion measurement. Privacy policy.

5. Data Retention

Local app data (config, a cached credit balance, export history, thumbnails) lives in your Mac's Application Support folder and is entirely under your control. Deleting the app removes this data. Our Cloudflare license-verification cache expires after 24 hours. The server-side credit/subscription ledger (Section 1) persists for as long as your subscription remains active, and is deleted upon request (Section 6). PostHog analytics are retained per PostHog's standard retention policy.

6. Your Rights

You may request deletion of any personal data we hold (your purchase email, as held by Lemon Squeezy) by contacting us. We will forward deletion requests to Lemon Squeezy on your behalf. For analytics data, PostHog anonymizes data such that it cannot be linked back to an individual.

7. Children

The app is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

8. Changes to This Policy

Material changes to this policy will be noted in the app's release notes and reflected with an updated effective date above.
